No! It’s a fine instrument to start with, especially for adults that have developed finger strength. For kids, I would recommend starting with ukulele lessons.
It’s really easy to start picking and sounding good. You don’t even need to learn chords right away, and can just focus on easy melodies, which really is rewarding to hear yourself play! And the basic chords are fairly easy as well.
