Are you looking for fun, engaging music lessons for your children in Davis?
It’s never too early to start developing a love and appreciation for music. I’ve had students as young as 3 years old come in for lessons and music fun time.
I have a 7 year old student on ukulele who in a couple months is learning his favorite songs, learning chords and rhythms weekly, and even writing his own tunes!! His mom tells me he looks forward to our lessons every week and learning something new.
One of my 16 year old students is learning how to play her favorite songs by ear, a skill she can practice at home and take with her for the rest of her life.
What to consider when thinking about lessons for your kid:
The Instrument
A full-size guitar is often too big for children (and even some adults!). Depending on your child’s age and size of their hands, you might consider a 1/2 or 3/4 size guitar.
A nylon string guitar is much easier to play than a steel stringed guitar so if that’s an option, that might be preferred.
For younger and smaller children, I highly recommend starting on the ukulele. The instrument is smaller, and the strings are easier to press and learn chords. It’s easy to take the skills from the ukulele and apply that to the guitar once they are ready đŸ™‚
The Lessons
I wish this wasn’t a common occurrence, but many of my students have shared horror stories of their first music lessons…some led to them not wanting to pick up an instrument for several years or even decades.
My philosophy is that learning an instrument is mostly about developing a love for music and for playing music.
I very much challenge my students to grow and learn and, but everyone develops at their own pace. Learning should be safe, patient, and fun. In my experience, that type of environment allows students to achieve much faster.
